Days of our Live's Marlena and John

One of daytime’s popular soaps has just been hit with two of the most dreaded words today: budget cuts.

In hopes of keeping up and running for at least another 18 months, the sudser’s producers have been forced to make a few difficult decisions. Unfortunately for fans, that means saying goodbye to two of the show’s longest-running characters: Marlena Evans and John Black.

Despite some work on other projects, actress Deidre Hall has been with the 43-year-old NBC program since 1976. Her on-and-off daytime husband, Drake Hogestyn, joined DOOL back in 1986.

When Cody Linley was eliminated from this past Tuesday, most people didn’t realize they were saying goodbye to Julianne Hough as well.

In an radio interview with , the two-time DWTS winner said she would like to take some time off to concentrate on her other job. “I really, really want to focus on the music and, ya know, be taken seriously a little bit. And I think it’s hard to be on [Dancing] and be singing,“ Julianne explained. (In the above clip, you can see the 20-year-old performing “My Hallelujah Song” on the recent results show.)

So does this mean the country singer will be gone from just Season 8 (the next installment should start up again in just a few months), or could her absence be even longer than that? That’s unclear. The only thing we can say for certain is that Derek is somewhere jumping for joy right now.

Cody Linley and Julianne Hough on Dancing with the Stars

Last night’s episode of was dramatic on many fronts. With the finals hanging in the balance, the competition was already intense. Then Brooke performed…and the whole game changed.

After weeks and weeks of being near or at the top, Burke did something unthinkable right off the bat: she scored a 21 for the Jive. That was the lowest score she had ever received during the whole season. Although she nicely rebounded with her second number (she got a 28 for her Salsa), the door was already left open for Brooke’s fellow challengers.

Fortunately for , there couldn’t have been a better night for him to peak. Yesterday, Lance and Lacey got their first 10 ever…three of them. They were also the only couple to break the 50 point mark. (Their total was 57.) Will the inconsistent competitor be able to keep up this momentum in the finals? (Assuming the voters even put him there?)

Although Tyra Banks is known for encouraging women to love themselves, the former supermodel is not entirely above physical transformations. On tomorrow’s episode of Tyra, a recent contestant will be presented with a big surprise: she’ll be getting a sex-change operation for free.

Those who have been following Cycle 11 are already familiar with the story behind Isis King. The former homeless girl became the show’s first pre-op transgendered contestant earlier this fall. And while Isis (a.k.a. Darrell Walls) was very open about her situation during the competition, she admits it was hard not feeling like the rest of the ladies.

Abby ElliottMichaela Watkins

Although recently lost Amy Poehler to motherhood and Tina Fey (once again) to 30 Rock, the show will soon go back to being unevenly staffed. This weekend, Lorne Michaels will introduce two new women to the NBC program. These casting additions will bring the female portion of the crew up to four. (If you count Seth Meyers, the male half currently stands at nine.)

Starting November 15, Abby Elliott (above left) and Michaela Watkins (above right) will become the latest Not Ready for Prime-Time Players. Elliott - who has performed with the Upright Citizens Brigade (the group co-founded by Poehler) - is also the daughter of a former SNL alum (comedian Chris Elliott). Meanwhile Watkins, who has appeared on several episodes of , comes with several ties of her own. She was once a member of The Groundlings, a comedy troupe that lists Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig amongst its former participants.

Paul Rudd and Beyonce are the featured guests on this Saturday’s show.

Maurice Greene and Cheryl Burke on Dancing with the Stars

On yesterday’s episode of Dancing with the Stars, the remaining five competitors were forced to work hard for their money. Although they were getting used to the two dances a night routine, the contestants had one extra challenge throw into the mix. For the first time ever, the challengers were required to perform a 15-second solo.

By the end of the evening, was once again on top - but not by much. Although she is still the total point leader, Warren Sapp came within one point of matching the mother of four. Lost Cast

ABC’s upcoming midseason schedule will probably look like a giant gift to some…a lump of coal to others.

The good news? The Oceanic 6 will make their return and the Sacred Heart crew (a.k.a. ) will have their network debut.  The bad news? Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money will both be given (temporary? permanent?) vacations.
